Harris is always asked how a visually impaired person can paint lovely landscapes and flowers, especially since she cannot see them. Good Question! First, she makes up the landscapes and flowers. Some come from faded memories, some from images that she received while listening to someone describe something. Others come from things I see. Actually, what I see has absolutely nothing to do with what it really is...but it is beautiful and it has sparked inspiration in me, so I go for it. They are not from a real place although if someone recognizes them I’ll go along with it!!! They could be from thousands of places. Other times, I just sit down and stare at the canvas, finally pick up a brush and put a color on it and see what happens! I do not do it; the Guardian Angel on my shoulder does it. The Angel guides the brush and picks the colors. I am just the vessel for it to use. All the credit goes to our Almighty God. There is no other explanation! I love the outdoors. When I walk outside or even look through a window (although it is better outside, I see God’s Awesome Majestry all around me. When I look at a beautiful tree, the shape of it, I see God. I can’t see an individual leaf, but I still see beauty and can’t imagine how mighty a power it took to create this world. Just one leaf, it sleeps, eats, drinks, breathes, blooms, and provides food, shelter, and shade. Then it turns another beautiful color and falls off the tree until awaken by the warm Spring. Even bare, the snow can cover a tree and the land surrounding it with the most beautiful blanket of white flakes. It’s just not within our limited brain power to understand all the complexities We SIMPLY get to enjoy all of it, and forget how complicated it is and who designed this awesome world. What I do not understand is why EVERYONE doesn’t see God in everything. When they walk out the door in the morning, why don’t they notice a tree? A flower? A crack in the sidewalk? I see God in everyone’s face and yes even the crack in the sidewalk, even though it is manmade. God is everywhere for me and especially outside. The sky, the clouds, the landscapes that are breathtaking and even the lonely dead tree sitting all alone on a hill battered by the wind and weather. It too has beauty. Although what I’m seeing is not what you would see, because I see it THROUGH MY EYES, it is still beautiful. It warms my heart and reminds me how much our God loves us. How much he has given us and continues to give no matter how sinful we are. Too many people have strayed away from our God and they need to come back and put him First where He should be. If you are only looking through the eyes of a human you may miss the beauty and God. You have to look with your heart, and sometimes through the child within. I have been seeing with my heart most of my life, and ALWAYS through the eyes of the child within. It is beautiful. That doesn’t mean I haven't had hard times, done bad things, made awful choices and ignored God, I have, but see our God is so awesome, He accepts my apology and brings me back into the fold. God is good. Look at all the people, all the children, the pets, the world. He made it with LOVE and He continues to Love us and we don’t even see Him when we walk out the door in the morning. Do we ever thank him for all that he has given us and surrounded us with? I not only thank Him but also ask how He is! Does anyone ever ask Him how he is? I think we tend to go to Him only when we need something and expect Him to fulfill our desire. Then we get mad at Him when our desire is not filled. Hmmm What’s wrong with this picture. He is GOD! Our Father Who Art In Heaven!!! He deserves to be worshipped and celebrated every minute of every day. During your happy times, your bad times, and all those times you are just going through the motions. Celebrate all that He has given us and stop being mad when He does not answer your prayer the way you wish. I have an idea. The next time you are stuck in traffic and stressed out because you are not in fast forward, take a deep breath, and look around you. Look at the car next to you, behind you, in front of you. Imagine all the talent it took to put that car together. It had to start with a design from someone’s imagination. Then apiece made here and apiece made there. Assembling it in different places and finally getting all the pieces together and the come out making a whole car!!! (Much in the same way God made the world). Yes, it is man made but who do you think gave the men the idea and talent to do it? God has not only provided us with transportation but a stress reliever if we would only take it. It’s a traffic jam, take a deep breath, sit back and relax, you yelling at them or being mad or upset in any way isn’t going to make it go away or move along any faster. So enjoy those few minutes, look around and perhaps, just perhaps you’ll even see something beautiful and want to thank God for it. Can you look at the face of the person in the car next to you, behind you? Can you see God in that face? Cam you imagine what they are thinking, feeling, what their life is like. Are they going home to nothing, a family, more stress, support, love, loneliness? Perhaps they need a God hug and need you to pray for it for them. Can you imagine the stress God is under? Talk about multi tasking! Now I will admit that I am a sunny day sort of person and that I do not like clouds and rain. There could be a number of reasons for this. No, it was not my childhood. I actually LIKED cloudy, rainy days then. But, we won’t go into analyzing why I don’t like them. I know to some they are beautiful and I accept that and ask for God’s forgiveness because I don’t appreciate those days as much as I should. But I guarantee, there will be a lot of things I WILL see that day or think about that will have God in it. I will see Him. He is always there. I love snowy days and I know many who HATE them. So I figure it must all come out okay at the end! Smile So, my hope is that everyone that views my work will see something of God in each piece. That each painting will reflect Him and that you will look away from it feeling like you have just gotten a God ‘hug’! I hope that the next morning when you walk out your door you will see things you never noticed before and continue noticing things all day long. You will appreciate what God has given us and thank him for such great beauty and love. Thank him especially for the painting you are looking at. And the hug that comes with it. A visually impaired woman of 40 something, with only peripheral vision, no art training background, or education, sits down and starts to paint. Can You tell ME who is doing it? No, I am not a Bible thumper or Jesus Freak. I AM a Christian, and I am proud of that and would like to share it with everyone. I am not however naive enough to expect everyone to love my God. My relationship with Him is intimate and between us, and I love to share Him with other Christians. I have finally found peace in this world and I am so grateful. He waited for me to catch up and it took me a while to understand, but He waited for me. I wish everyone could be where I am, but you have to get there on your own, with your own intimate relationship with God. I will admit that painting has served as a therapy for me and at times has been like breathing. I had to do it. Each painting is a part of me and it is like giving a child away when I sell a piece or give one away. It is difficult to let go of it. God and Jesus are alive and well in my world and I am SO grateful. And I like my world a whole lot better like that. I cannot quote you scriptures, I can only tell you what I see THROUGH THESE EYES, and feel with my heart. I can also show you what I see and feel by allowing myself to be a vessel for a very talented and patient little guardian angel who was sent to do God’s work and show the world once again all the love and beauty he has bestowed upon us. No one but our God could be so patient and loving. My God is Good, Is yours? |
